Transfield Services were proud to be the sponsor of Victoria’s first underwater marine trail ‘The Octopuses Garden’ at Rye Pier on the Mornington Peninsula.

Rye Pier is one of the most frequently dived locations in Victoria, suitable for novice snorkellers and divers. The area boasts a vast array of sponges, fish and invertebrates. Sea stars, rays and the elusive pipefish are some of the creatures that can be found. You might also spot Pygmy Seahorses hiding amongst the seaweed, schools of fish darting between pylons or even resident octopus hiding in the sand.

Access to the trail is easy – just walk in from the beach. The trail is 200m long and follows the pier away from the shore and then back to the beach. Bright and bold underwater signs mounted to the pylons guide visitors along their journey of discovery, whilst the shallow waters and sheltered location makes this marine haven an easy for most of the year.

A unique first for Victoria the first underwater marine trail in Victoria received enormous media attention and continues to do so.

The media coverage ranged from Good Morning Australia (Australian wide – Network Ten), Dive Log Australasia magazine and two full colour double page spreads in the Herald Sun as well as numerous radio interviews and other print articles.
