Client: Transfield Services
Visions of Blue worked with Transfield
Services to develop Victoria's
first marine discovery trail. The trail, known as "The
Octopuses Garden", has been developed at Rye Pier on the Mornington
Peninsula.
The site supports an enormous variety of habitats and marine life
including a vast array of invertebrates, rays, seahorses and stargazers.
Many varieties
and colours of marine plants can also be observed. The primary aim of the
project is to promote marine conservation and sustainable use
of the area, whilst providing
a safe and enjoyable experience for snorkellers and divers.

Visions of Blue and Transfield Services have worked closely with
Parks Victoria, the Mornington Peninsula Shire Council and the
Rye Community Action Group throughout
this project. Each of these organisations are looking
forward to positive results. Reports on similar projects in other states
suggest that marine trails have generated increased awareness and
appreciation of the
marine environment and have reduced the negative impacts on the environment.
We hope that "The Octopuses Garden" will also inspire
many people to explore and protect the marine environment at Rye.
