Client: City
of Port Phillip Council
On World Environment Day 2002, the City of Port
Phillip Council hosted "Our
Voice, Our Future", an environment conference for schools in the City
of Port Phillip. The key themes of the conference were biodiversity, energy,
lightblue and marine.
Sheree Marris was one of the coordinators of the conference, developing
the concept for the event, producing posters and brochures and developing
an education
kit for teachers. Sheree was the keynote speaker at the conference and the
facilitator for the day's activities. Working alongside staff from the
City of Port Phillip Council, the Victorian EPA, the Centre for Education
and Research in Environmental Strategies (CERES), Vox Bandicoot and the Melbourne
Zoo, she had contact with over 200 primary and secondary students from at
least
12 schools. These students were encouraged to voice their ideas and to believe
that they can make a difference to the environment in which they live. Each
of them participated in a number of workshops. The outcomes of these workshops
were developed into an environmental charter for the City of Port Phillip
Council to adopt.
